The latest MyMedicare updates to assist patient registration in anticipation of the National Consumer Campaign launching in February 2024.

MyMedicare patient registration templates are now available in MedicalDirector and Best Practice

  • Department of Health and Aged Care (DoHAC) and Services Australia have been engaging with the sector, including the Medical Software Vendors Industry Association (MSIA), to agree the design specifications for integration of the MyMedicare initiative with patient management software.

 

My Health Record and the myhealth app now display a patient’s MyMedicare registered practice and doctor

  • This integration will help to improve correspondence between hospitals and primary care, ensuring the sharing of critical health information is going to the correct health professional.

 

The Community stakeholder Information kit is available to support consumer registration and answer questions.

  •  This kit includes information and communications resources you can share with your community to learn more about MyMedicare and help support registration. It will also support you in answering any questions you may receive about MyMedicare.


MyMedicare fact sheets are now available in EnglishArabicSimplified ChineseTraditional ChineseGreekItalianKorean and Vietnamese.

  •  We encourage practices working with patients from multicultural backgrounds to start informing their patients about MyMedicare and encouraging them to register.

 

If your practice is manually accepting/declining patient-initiated registrations, you will only have 30 days to review before the registration expires

  •  Practices can elect to manually accept patient registrations that are made through the Medicare Online App. These registrations come through the MyMedicare system at the practice as ‘pending registration’ (not complete) and practices must then go in and accept or decline each one. Services Australia advises there are a significant number of these, and that pending registrations expire after 30 days, after which the patient needs to re-register. The Residential Aged Care Home (RACH) registration form has been updated.

  • Residents who have a Medicare or DVA card and have received two in person appointments with their regular practice in the preceding 24 months (or one appointment in rural and remote areas) can register for MyMedicare. Noting that Services Australia is unable to process hardcopy registration forms. Practices must enter these into Health Professional Online Services and keep a copy in the patient’s clinical records.
