Wayfinder is an alcohol and other drug (AOD) support program consisting of a suite of high intensity and low intensity treatment options. The service seeks to lessen the likelihood of relapse by tailoring treatment specific to individual needs and provides an expanded range of treatment options.
Funded by SEMPHN and delivered by Windana Drug & Alcohol Recovery in collaboration with SECADA, the 12-week Wayfinder AOD Program provides a multidisciplinary team approach, providing consumers with access to counselling, case management, group sessions, and social support. Using a continuum of care approach, the service seeks to lessen the likelihood of relapse by tailoring treatment specific to individual needs and provides an expanded range of treatment options based on changing needs for more intensive or less intensive treatment over time.
  • Where will the program be delivered?

The program will be delivered in Cranbourne (Taskforce hub) and St. Kilda (Windana).

The program will also be delivered through outreach sites as they become available.

  • Why is the program needed?

Treatment for problematic substance use is not a one-size-fits-all proposition and requires a long-term commitment. The implementation of evidence-based programs to address substance use across a continuum of care is essential to preventing substance use, reducing the harms associated with problematic substance use, and creating healthy communities.  A continuum of care model provides a greater opportunity for successful recovery in the long-term.

Best practice treatment for problematic substance use, particularly those with moderate to high severity, indicates at least 3 months in treatment to significantly reduce or stop substance use, and that the best outcomes occur with longer durations of treatment.
