RACGP Victoria offers online training with information and strategies for safer prescribing of opioids in chronic pain settings. 

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Implement safe and effective opioid prescribing as part of a broader pain management plan.
  2. Summarise the potential benefits and risks associated with opioid prescribing
  3. Recognise, prevent and respond to problematic pharmaceutical opioid use.
  4. Assess the appropriateness of and commence induction of a patient on one of the Opioid Replacement Therapies - Buprenorphine.

This training, also referred to as Medication Assisted Treatment of Opioid Dependence (MATOD) Module 1, can be accessed at any time via the RACGP website

This training is a prerequisite for prescribers who want to attend the approved pharmacotherapy training for GPs, referred to as Medication Assisted Treatment of Opioid Dependence (MATOD) Module 2. Both modules are accessible free of charge for all  Victorian GPs and Nurse Practitioners (members and non-members of RACGP).
